Share Your Story with the Memorial Museum
We will be in the Washington Metropolitan area from September 2 - 4
We are pleased to be working with Arlington County and our partner StoryCorps, to record oral history interviews with victims’ family members, first responders, volunteers, survivors, and witnesses of the 9/11 attacks. The Memorial Museum will preserve these personal stories in order to tell the story of 9/11 and to remember those who were killed. See below for two ways to share your story.

The StoryCorps September 11 Initiative: The Memorial Museum is honored to be working in partnership with StoryCorps to collect at least one remembrance for each victim of the attacks of September 11, 2001 and February 26, 1993 as well as narratives of survival and witness testimonies.
StoryCorps is a national oral history initiative that conducts 40-minute interviews in a conversational format, typically between two people who know one another. Participants engaging in these remembrance interviews can be family members, friends, co-workers, neighbors, and/or rescue and recovery workers. You will receive a courtesy CD of your recording to take home and share, with all production fees waived for the 9/11 community. In addition to being deposited at the Library of Congress, these 9/11 remembrances will be preserved in perpetuity as part of the National September 11 Memorial Museum’s permanent collection. Families and survivors describe their StoryCorps session as a loving and supportive way to celebrate life.

Oral Histories at the National September 11 Memorial & Museum: Your voice deserves preservation in the Museum. Contribute your unique story of September 11, 2001 and reflections about how 9/11 has changed you and the world by recording your remembrances with the Museum’s oral historians. Oral histories will play a vital role in the Museum’s permanent collection and exhibitions, enabling the Museum to present compelling, authentic accounts of the day as it unfolded in New York, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and elsewhere around the nation and the world, and to chronicle the aftermath, including the unprecedented outpouring of support, volunteerism, philanthropy and global concern that followed. Museum staff will conduct interviews with military and civilian survivors, first responders and recovery workers, eye-witnesses, volunteers, and relatives and friends of those who were killed. You may choose to participate in a one-on-one interview facilitated by our oral historians, or to form a group of colleagues to record your shared experiences together in one session.
